Dieter Hallervorden

In 2014, Dieter Hallervorden received the German Film Award as Best Leading Actor for his role as Paul Averhoff in "Sein letztes Rennen". He likes to call Paul "the role of his life". We'd like to add a footnote: Amandus in "Honig im Kopf" was, for us, another "role of his life" — and so was the ex-con in "Oskar, das Schlitzohr und Fanny Supergirl", and… and… really, for years now he's been playing nothing but "roles of his life"! Dieter was once the most celebrated comedian in Germany, and more people could name him than the sitting Chancellor. The first time those numbers evened out was when Germany had its first female Chancellor. Today, it's fair to say that Dieter Hallervorden is the most significant German character actor of his generation. In 2022, he opened his third theatre — this time in his hometown of Dessau — presumably because between shoot days, theatre performances, running his two Berlin theatres, his reading tours, writing his books, translating French plays, and appearing on political talk shows, he urgently needed something more to do.
