Sometimes reality is more brutal than the imagination could ever be. As, for example, in the world of high finance and banking. What has come to light in recent years about the banks'' contemptuous business practices may have been suspected by some, but the scale of the human abysses involved has shaken the world to its core. It is the blueprint for the highly topical thriller series Credo, which the acclaimed director Christian Schwochow is currently shooting in Frankfurt. Jörg Westphal got to slip into the role of a tax lawyer who knows — and ruthlessly exploits — the best loopholes and investment opportunities the world over. "It was incredibly interesting, because it isn''t about your usual criminal cases — this is the first thriller series set in the world of high finance," Westphal recounts. Director Christian Schwochow, too, is stunned. During a conversation on set, he told Jörg Westphal that he gets goosebumps now that, through working on the series, he truly understands what is going on. The European thriller series Credo tells of the rise and fall in the world of high finance, of intoxication and addiction, narcissism and human abysses. Young banker Jana (Paula Beer) is drawn by her boss (Desirée Nosbusch) into an intrigue that threatens to trigger a banking crisis. But Jana moves through the world of investment banking like a fish in water — and in the process increasingly becomes a shark with a killer instinct herself. Even though it was only a single day of shooting, it gave Jörg Westphal a remarkable insight into the work on the set of Credo. He found the collaboration with Grimme-Preis winner Christian Schwochow fantastic, describing Schwochow as a sensitive, approachable director. The high-calibre series is produced by Letterbox Filmproduktion in co-production with Iris Productions SA Luxembourg, ZDF and arte.
