Schmetterlinge sind frei

Schmetterlinge sind frei

Don Baker dares the experiment and moves out of home. He wants at last to stand on his own two feet and free himself from the clutches of his over-protective mother. One obstacle in all this is that Don is blind. Just as Don is finding his way nicely around his spartan little room, his new neighbour Jill Tanner flutters into his life. Jill is Don's absolute opposite: free-spirited, fun-loving and spontaneous. The two fall in love. But the complications are not long in coming. For what is a great leap forward for Don seems to the easy-going Jill merely one adventure among many. And then Don's mother gets involved as well, apparently willing to use any means to bring Don back home …

A love story at once tender and strong, and at the same time a moving piece about the great themes of breaking away, letting go and growing up. The American original, "Butterflies Are Free", was a success on Broadway in the late 1960s. In 1972 the play was made into a film with Goldie Hawn, Edward Albert and Eileen Heckart, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for it at the time.
