A Piece of Theatre History

A Piece of Theatre History

With the award, the International Theatre Institute seeks to honour an "outstanding collective intervention in the German theatre landscape", as the citation puts it. "With its cross-genre aesthetic, 'Mittelreich' is an unmistakable engagement with the state of diversity in this country. The performers of 'Mittelreich' and their director have, with their forward-looking project, written a piece of theatre history." Anta Helena Recke's "Mittelreich", which premiered at the Münchner Kammerspiele in 2017, was featured at the radikal jung festival in 2018 and, as one of the ten most remarkable productions of the year, was also invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen. Together with director Recke, the 2019 ITI Prize goes to: Yosemeh Adjej, Victor Asamoah, Jan Burkamp, Romy Camerun, Ernest Allan Hausmann, Jerry Hoffmann, Moses Leo, Prisca Mbawala, Isabelle Redfern, Miriel J. Cutiño Torres and Julian Warner.
