Faust and His Captivating Riddles

Faust and His Captivating Riddles

Peter Kratz and his ensemble set out on a tightrope walk when they chose a version of "Faust" in the adaptation by the brilliant Werner Schwab. Schwab, a darling above all of the 1980s and 90s — the era of new departures not only in theatre — left behind, despite his early (alcohol-related) death (he died on 1 January 1994, aged just 35), a distinctive and idiosyncratic style and a whole series of remarkable works. His language alone, which he himself dubbed "Schwabisch", was and is something special. And now, in the Ludwigsburg Clussgarten, "Faust" after the German classic by Goethe. Anyone who watches the piece, and one should do so in any case, must also heed the warning to first banish the Goethean Faust from their mind. Only then is there room for this so modern, so topical, so parodic Faust. Stuttgarter Nachrichten: "A splendid ensemble, perhaps one of the most homogeneous and equal-footed ensembles in the history of the Theatersommer, is already on brilliant form at this premiere. Andi Klaue is a Faust full of contradictions — commanding faun-like one moment, despairing the next, a powerhouse that underlines the force of the words he utters." Staging: Peter Kratz. Costumes: Pina Sophia Starke. Set: Enno Craiss. With: Bernadette Hug, Bernhard Linke, Andreas Klaue, Christine Last, Stefan Until 27.07.2018 at the Ludwigsburg Theatersommer.
