"Betrayal" by Harold Pinter

"Betrayal" by Harold Pinter

Jerry betrays his best friend Robert, for Emma is Robert's wife. After their affair has ended, Jerry and Emma meet once more, and suddenly they must realise that betrayal is everywhere: not only is Robert himself cheating on his wife, he has also known about her affair with Jerry for years...

Excerpt from a review:

Thomas Peters, in turn, is cast in the trio as the cool comedian. Robert, who hates modern prose, is a publisher whose sarcasm is almost as gloriously repellent as Bernd Stromberg's insurance-man act on television. A man like him would never turn adultery into a mere affair. He has his own dalliances, after all. And yet the self-assured macho first has to find his footing when he learns the truth. Thomas Peters teases out that faltering beneath the arrogant facade with lovely understatement. The redeeming scandal of an explosive revelation, the kind that lurks lasciviously in boulevard theatre, is nowhere to be found in Pinter. His characters quietly come to terms with their grievances. And still the audience is not betrayed out of its pleasure. Wiesbadener Kurier, Stefan Benz, 4 October 2018
