We proudly announce: we now have an actress in the permanent ensemble of the Berliner Schaubühne, and Isabelle Redfern's first work at this legendary theatre is the world premiere of "Abgrund" by Maja Zade: over dinner at Bettina and Matthias's, every topic, important or trivial, is discussed with their friends, while in the next room their little daughter Pia and the baby Gertrud sleep peacefully as angels … Beneath the smooth surface of the endlessly repeated phrases and conversational clichés of the enlightened, educated middle class, "Abgrund" sketches the scenario of the worst imaginable tragedy and lets terror step out of fear and into reality. The response is paralysed shock, bottomless small talk, denial, and the hope that it was all merely a thought experiment.
