The German premiere of "Sonny Boys" took place on 23 December 1973 at the Schlosspark Theater Berlin. Directed by Peter Matić, it starred Martin Held as Willie and Bernhard Minetti as Al. In Thomas Schendel''s new adaptation the play is relocated to present-day Berlin, with Dieter Hallervorden as "Didi" and Philipp Sonntag as "Phil": For decades the washed-up comedy duo Didi and Phil delighted audiences with a sketch that the passage of time has by now thoroughly gnawed away at. With the years of "eternal repetition", the fame of the "Sonny Boys" only grew. When Phil decides one day that he wants to bow out, the two fall out. Both withdraw into anonymity, until one day a nostalgia programme about "the great age of variety" is scheduled for television. At its centre is to stand the very embodiment of the era: the Sonny Boys. Premiere 30 November 2013.
