During a folk festival, the drunken members of a brass band rape a waitress. One of the nine men is innocent, but anonymous, and the police investigation founders on grave errors. It is the first major case of the young Berlin lawyer Friedrich Leonhardt. He will never forget it. Jörg Westphal is one of the nine "respectable men" of the brass band. It rests with him, as with every one of the others, whether he testifies or not, whether the perpetrators get away with it or not. Justice through fairness — or does only GUILT remain in the end?
