And Now Another Gull for His Zoo

And Now Another Gull for His Zoo

Is the SILBERNE MÖWE, the first cabaret prize from Schleswig-Holstein, really his 14th award in the three years of his still-young cabaret career? We arrive at the number fourteen, although with such a wealth of accolades it is entirely possible that we have forgotten one of the many little creatures… Among them are satire lions, crows, sheep, one-ears, Rottweilers, even Weisswürste, pans and brooms, the latter of which could certainly come in handy when keeping animals.

Here is the lovely review from "HL-live - Die schnelle Zeitung für Lübeck": On Friday evening, René Sydow was awarded the "Silberne Möwe" cabaret prize, and on Saturday evening he was once again a guest at the Kulturbühne in Travemünde. The appearance was part of the prize. Sydow was able to show that the award was justified. With the sharp tongue of the herring gull, the inaugural winner of the "Silberne Möwe" broke free of his chain and went full tilt at his audience. The audience, one might say, wanted it no other way. He prevailed against the witty and ambiguous wordplay of a former German teacher, the self-healing advice of a motivational trainer, and the musical cabaret of an artist who had escaped the carnival speeches and now performs across Bavaria. With his verbal wit, Sydow saw off his high-calibre fellow competitors by a clear margin. He shone across the full breadth of his abilities, with themes ranging from education, TV, media-makers, politics and its protagonists, his cosmetic surgeon, all the way to his own self. Black humour, savage political cabaret and eloquent puns — hidden meanings and thoughts between the lines gave the audience many a nut to crack. And then, like a sharp shot: that was how Sydow held a mirror up to society. Sydow — actor, cabaret artist, author and director — is a multi-talent, now honoured with the Silberne Möwe, the first cabaret prize from Schleswig-Holstein, the land between the seas. He rewarded the audience for yesterday's decision with a rousing and unforgettable evening.
