After-party atmosphere: the rush of amphetamines, ecstasy and cocaine and the euphoria and sociability that come with it — but then also the comedown, the depression and an essential loneliness. The lyrics are shot through with motifs of transience and futility, escalating the gathering gloom into a fear of death, a consciousness of one''s own mortality. The titular melancholy feeds on the simultaneity of the beauty of the moment and the knowledge of its fleeting nature. The roughly six-strong troupe is played by older people who nonetheless behave entirely like teenagers or twenty-something "clubbers".
