Maysoon is a beautiful, sorrowful and, above all, deeply realistic film about love and the destructive force it can turn into when hearts and promises are broken, when disappointments go unprocessed. And, ultimately, it is about freedom and the question of how each of us defines it for ourselves.
The sun is shining, spirits are high, the happiness of this young family seems perfect. She, a trained Egyptologist who came to Berlin from Alexandria after the Arab Spring, has built a new life here, found a profession, started a family. She has left her own family behind, with no contact to the parents who stayed in Egypt and who blame her for the tragic death of her brother (a guilt she also carries herself). Tobi and her children have become her new home, as Maysoon puts it at one point.
Bianca Nawrath plays the nanny Nadia.
