Full of Euphoria and Anticipation

In Berlin and among friends of cabaret theatre, this news spread like wildfire: after almost 40 years, "Die Wühlmäuse" are getting their own ensemble again. With this, the theatre's founder Dieter Hallervorden has fulfilled a long-cherished wish. Mathias Harrebye-Brandt is one of the actors selected by Hallervorden and the Berlin cabaret artist Frank Lüdecke. After a classic audition with three texts, the actor received his confirmation while still on stage. "I was absolutely thrilled to be performing in this historic house. Above all, I'm also looking forward to doing cabaret again." Alongside Mathias Harrebye-Brandt and Robert Louis Griesbach, Santina Maria Schrader and Birthe Wolter also perform. The two women had their audition before the men and were already on their way home when, on the underground, they received the call that the ensemble was complete and that they could come back, Harrebye-Brandt recounts. "The first meeting was immediately very funny and pleasant. We talked roughly about the content of the play and considered perhaps making the music ourselves, with the instruments we can play. This could turn into something!" They still want to fine-tune the story over the course of rehearsals, but the plan is for a cabaret attempt at integration that leaves no eye dry. At Istanbul's Atatürk Airport, four travellers are stranded on their onward flight to Berlin. Failed start-up entrepreneurs meet unhinged conflict researchers, single mothers meet frustrated investment bankers, and no opportunity is missed to misunderstand one another. But then an incredible message arrives from the Federal Chancellery. And suddenly things take an entirely different turn. Tatort Atatürk is a turbulent broadside of attitudes and opposites, a cabaret insight into German sensibilities between integration and the motorway toll. The premiere is on 1 September 2017.
