Einsteins Verrat

Einsteins Verrat

Three men by a lake, Princeton, New Jersey: a vagabond who lost his son in the war and therefore hates the Germans; Einstein, the world-famous scientist, a German who fled the Nazis to the United States; and Simpson, an FBI agent who scents red treason in this German, takes his Jewishness for a cover for Bolshevism, and blackmails the vagabond into spying on Einstein. In moving images, with dialogue full of subtle humour, the play lays bare the contradictions of the committed pacifist, socialist, Zionist and Nobel laureate Albert Einstein. "I made one great mistake in my life — when I signed the letter to President Roosevelt recommending that atom bombs be made; but there was some justification for it: the danger that the Germans would build them." A genius of kindness and wit, of doubts and self-doubt. Premiere: 7 September 2013, Schlosspark Theater. Dates Oct / Sep / Nov / Dec 2013.
