This Time Bread, and Not Just Art

The arts promotion prize celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. It has been awarded annually by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia since 1957. Among the best-known recipients of past years are great names such as Pina Bausch, Christoph Schlingensief, Andreas Gursky, Dieter Wellershoff and Tom Tykwer, and this year we are delighted at the recognition of our actress Marissa Möller. The Ministry of Culture and Science NRW has awarded the Cultural Promotion Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia 2017, each worth 7,500 euros, for the 60th time to sixteen young artists connected to the federal state by birth, residence or their work. Their achievements are honoured with two prizes each in the seven categories of fine art, literature, music, film, theatre, architecture and media art. In the category "Theatre: directing, acting, singing, dance, stage design", the prize went to the Dortmund artist Mario Simon, with the Schauspiel Dortmund since 2013, and to the Duisburg actress Marissa Möller, an ensemble member at the Schlosstheater Moers from 2013 to 2017 among other engagements. With the prize money, the young artists are to realise special projects and make their work even better known to the public, according to the ministry in a press release.
