Patong Girl

In February and March, Marcel Glauche films a family holiday comedy of a special kind in Thailand: a story both funny and serious that reaches far beyond the everyday fare of a holiday film. The Schröders land with their two sons in a Thai-Bavarian hotel with the chic name Alpenrose. There is roast goose with red cabbage at 30 degrees in the evening. A pretty Thai woman in a saucy Santa Claus costume does the serving. In the background, German Christmas carols ring out, counterpointed by the song of cicadas... The comedy begins harmlessly with funny, cheeky family dialogue... and turns into a deeply thoughtful film as one of the two sons becomes entangled in an extraordinary love story...
