Sandra Lüders (Tessa Mittelstaedt) originally comes from Neulich, but lived for a long time with her family in the big city. Now, together with her husband Thomas (Martin Engler), teenagers Justus (Christoph Moreno) and Jana (Ella Lee), and baby Finja, she moves back to her old village to her free-spirited mother Monika (Cornelia Lippert), a child of '68. But Sandra is not only the suspiciously regarded returnee from the city; she also seriously disrupts the supposed village idyll: her job is to sell the locals on the construction of a large battery-cell factory. The village community fights the project. And what became of Sandra's predecessor, who vanished without a trace after a number of disputes? To make matters worse, the Lüders naturally have their own problems too: as a working mother, Sandra struggles not only with her work-life balance. Son Justin is nursing a broken heart, and father Thomas dreams of self-fulfilment as a musician. Daughter Jana, meanwhile, is searching for her gender identity and from now on calls herself Jan.
