At the Wirtshaus Kren, the chef lies dead in a pool of his own blood — stabbed with a kitchen knife. As chairman of the inn's in-house savings club, he had gambled away its funds on risky financial deals. Investigators Sascha Bergmann and Anni Sulmtaler uncover two women the chef visited regularly, and a half-brother who owes him money and is under pressure. As the detectives unravel the tangled relationships and motives of the villagers, it becomes clear that disturbing secrets lurk behind the facade of this likeable young man.
