Der Krug an der Wiedau

Der Krug an der Wiedau

Detective Hannes Schröder is played by a genuine member of the German minority in Denmark: Mathias Harrebye-Brandt, who can always be made very happy when shooting days take him to his homeland behind the dyke.

The old German border inn in Rosenkranz forms the main setting for the crime film "Der Krug an der Wiedau". In this fictional tavern in no man's land, locals gather who understand one another regardless of their language or affiliation. Even so, there is plenty for the detective and her colleague to investigate.

A joint production by the Bund Deutscher Nordschleswiger (BDN) and Nordfriisk Teooter, the set sees German, Danish, Frisian, Low German and "Synnejysk" all spoken.

"You're standing here with one foot in Germany and the other in Denmark. We've been here a good week, though it feels far longer. We're braving the weather. We expect the finished product in May or June," reports Mathias Harrebye-Brandt.

The plan is for this crime film, made in Rosenkranz, to reach local cinemas on the east and west coasts on both sides of the border. There are also plans to show the film at club film evenings, and at a date yet to be fixed it is to be made available online.

It will be worth waiting to see the result when "Der Krug an der Wiedau", "Æ kro ve æ Viå", "E krouf bai e Wiedå", "De Krooch an de Wiedau", "Kroen ved Vidåen" comes to the screen.
