To mark the start of filming in Berlin for "Chuzpe" (working title), here is a photo with Anja Kling, Claudia Eisinger and Dieter Hallervorden. A life-affirming adaptation loosely based on a novel by Lily Brett. Filming has begun in Berlin on the TV film "Chuzpe" (working title). The adaptation — loosely based on motifs from the novel "Chuzpe" by the Australian-American bestselling author Lily Brett — tells with great humour of the fresh start that the sprightly Australian-by-choice Edek Rotwachs (Dieter Hallervorden) makes in Germany, and of why meatballs mean a piece of home. Edek (Dieter Hallervorden) dares to begin a new life. After more than six decades in Australia, he moves to Berlin. As a Holocaust survivor, he had found a home in Melbourne with his wife. His daughter Ruth (Anja Kling), however, wants her father close by. But the modern metropolis is alien to Edek. And Ruth, too, stifles the octogenarian with her excessive care. Although his son-in-law Georg (Hans-Jochen Wagner) and his grandson Zacharias (Tilmann Pörzgen) also do their best for him, the sprightly widower feels alone and superfluous. When Edek's attempts to get involved in Ruth's communications agency end in chaos, he recalls an acquaintance made while travelling. A year earlier, in Marseille, he had met the fun-loving Zofia (Franziska Troegner) and her friend Valentina (Natalia Bobyleva). Even back in Australia he had hoped to see them again. With the help of his grandson and the internet, Edek sets off in search of the charming Polish women. Having found them, he takes Zofia and Valentina in as flatmates in the apartment Ruth has styled for him — and with them a great deal of fun and zest for life enters his world. Beyond Zofia's ample physical charms, it is above all her Polish meatballs that send Edek into raptures. Much to the horror of Ruth, who had imagined a quiet retirement for her father. When the trio starts toying with the idea of a meatball restaurant, Ruth is utterly aghast. Yet full of enthusiasm, the three pursue their business idea and rent an empty shop unit — in a rough area, far from any passing trade ... Further roles are played by Barbara Philipp, Claudia Eisinger, Renate Serwotke, Florentine Lahme and others. "Chuzpe" is a production by Tivoli Film Produktion (producers Thomas Hroch and Gerald Podgornig, producer Gudula von Eysmondt) commissioned by ARD Degeto for Das Erste. "Chuzpe" is directed by Isabel Kleefeld. The screenplay was written by Andrea Stoll, with cinematography by Rainer Klausmann. The commissioning editor is Diane Wurzschmitt. Filming continues until the end of May 2015.
