Johannes Heinrichs filmed for SENNA in Buenos Aires, Montevideo and São Paulo, soaked up the atmosphere of the racing paddock and spent a great deal of time in make-up, working again and again to approximate the rather distinctive look of Niki Lauda.
Tomorrow marks the 30th anniversary of the death of the Brazilian Formula 1 world champion Ayrton Senna da Silva.
On 1 May 1994, he had a fatal accident on the Imola circuit during the San Marino Grand Prix. At the funeral procession in Senna's home city of São Paulo, more than three million people paid their last respects — and at the end of 2024, Netflix pays tribute to him with a series.
Johannes Heinrichs is Niki Lauda, pictured here with the Brazilian actor Gabriel Leone, who plays Senna.
The direction also comes from Brazil: Vicente Amorim and Julia Rezende.
The "Senna" series is produced as a collaboration between the production company Gullane, Senna Brands and the Senna family.
Casting: Lucy Bevan Casting
