For more than a year and a half, the tragic love story of the famous singer Rachel Marron, who falls hopelessly in love with her bodyguard, has been a crowd-puller. Based on the Hollywood film with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, it has been turned into a musical that first thrilled audiences in London's West End and then in Germany too. So you could call it luck, Jörg Moukaddam reckons, that it was precisely his type that was needed: a tall, powerful personal protection officer. The actor was warmly welcomed straight away by the colleagues who, in some cases, had already been performing in the Cologne production for a year and a half. "They're fantastic. At the start they kept coming over and giving me tips, I was part of the team right away, and that's a real pleasure." The initial nerves quickly faded, and Jörg Moukaddam was able to lose himself entirely in the performance and, above all, to enjoy the music anew at every show. The musical contains far more songs than the film. Above all, world hits by Whitney Houston such as "I Will Always Love You" or "I Wanna Dance with Somebody". "I grew up with Whitney Houston. All those songs accompanied me through my youth. That's why this engagement holds a special meaning for me," Moukaddam enthuses. And then the lights go down and the show begins. It is a glamorous live spectacle, carried by the magnificent voice of the leading lady and her interpretation of the songs. "Luckily I don't have to sing, the dancing is bad enough for me," Moukaddam laughs. The audience in the sold-out house senses nothing of these reservations. They let themselves be swept away into the world of the soul diva and her love for Frank Farmer, which is the perfect illusion for two hours. After the run was already extended once, the musical will run in Cologne only until 27 August 2017. After that it will continue in Stuttgart.
