Norbert enjoys playing ghosts. It must be in his nature, because after the ghost in HAMLET at the Gorki in Berlin, he is now in Hamburg presenting his latest attempt to give shape to an unreal role.
"Intervention!" is a kind of theatre within theatre, an improvised drama that refuses to come to an end. In the end, everything is set back to start. True, the ghost warns as early as the first act: "Let's all calm down and start again from the beginning." But for one thing, nobody listens to him. And for another, as part of this perfectly ordinary dysfunctional family, he is of course part of the problem too. Somehow that makes "Intervention!" rather realistic after all.
Family is a seemingly inexhaustible wellspring of violence, from psychological terror to murder and mayhem. With "Intervention!", Sven Regener and Leander Haußmann have written a comedy that shows a patchwork family coping with crisis. Better: attempting to. Hearty kale for vegetarians, boulevard on speed.
