"You Can't Always Be Sixty" premieres at the Staatstheater Hannover on 3 July, with further performances on 4, 5, 6 and 7 July; tickets are available on 0511 9999 1111. It is a light-hearted, garish and musical farce, developed from Ilja Richter's book of the same name, which has been on sale in bookshops since May 2013. He and Irmgard Knef (Ulrich Heissig) come to blows over the stage. Owing to a scheduling blunder, the grande dame of chanson is due to give her concert at exactly the same time as Ilja. Yet neither of these two alpha performers will give way, both insisting on their contract. The perennial youngster and the longest-serving cabaret chanteuse have no choice but to find a way to get along. Ulrich Heissig plays Irmgard, the sister of Hildegard Knef, who wants to sing and to tell the story of her life in the shadow of her famous sibling.
