Helden der Hauptstadt tells the story of six utterly different main characters, the heroes of the capital. The plot draws closely on the life of Berlin's youth culture: after his failed studies, Max returns to his home city of Berlin and gazes lethargically at the ruins of his life plans. Listless and disgruntled, he runs into old friends from various social backgrounds who entangle him in all manner of chaos. The most important roles are arguably played by his childhood friends Hassan and Agron, whom he meets again after 15 years through a job-centre scheme, and his left-wing alternative flatmate from his student days, Chris, who is in Berlin in search of success, self-realisation and women. Together the unlikely clique stumbles through Berlin life, confronted by traumatic problems that go far beyond the unemployment-benefit application...
