Hallervorden's Narrhallamarsch against censorship:
"Erdoğan, report me too!"
After the public prosecutor, assisted by the Chancellor, opened an investigation into Böhmermann, the Turkish head of state moved against "NDR-Extradry" and other satirists were even threatened with terror, Dieter Hallervorden has now decided to release a satirical song aimed at Erdoğan. "I didn't just want to show solidarity with the colleagues under attack, but really also with myself and my artistic freedom!" So Hallervorden set a sharp-tongued lyric to one of the best-known German carnival tunes, showing oppression where its limits lie. (As far back as 1840, the "Narrhallamarsch" had already become a satirical, musical raised middle finger against Prussian censorship and French posturing.) "As if it weren't enough to hand the Turkish ruler refugees, billions in tax money and guided missiles: now freedom of opinion has been 'delivered' too," fumes Dieter Hallervorden. "I've probably just been a little too — how would you say it in modern parlance? — 'dictator-phobic' for this sort of thing since my youth!"
