GRAND COALITION - GRAND DISAPPOINTMENT - TIME FOR A GENEROUS RETHINK

Last Thursday (2 June), in the slipstream of the so-called Unemployment Insurance Protection and Further Training Strengthening Act (AWStG), the Bundestag extended the unemployment benefit (ALG 1) rule for those in short-term fixed contracts until 31 July 2018 — without making the adjustments to the employment biographies of cultural workers that had been promised in the coalition agreement. As a result, the ineffectiveness of the rule is now locked in until the end of the legislative term.
