CARABA is about trust — in oneself and in the people around you. The starting point for the 90-minute coming-of-age film is that there are no longer any schools as we know them. Across 5 episodes it asks what young people would learn if they followed their own interests: the disarmingly naive NURI (8) rides along in his father's taxi and entertains the passengers; the determined SASKIA (20) researches a sleeping pill and fights for recognition; the dreamy LOVIS (12) plays table tennis in the park and falls in love with Soljanka; MAX (17) paints washing machines on their spin cycle and loses himself in it; while for JANNE (15), fate leads to field research about family. We asked our actress Funda Rosenland to write something about her role:I play Aydan, an intellectual but likeable career woman, the mother of the lead character Nuri. It's a really lovely role, because it portrays a Turkish woman against all clichés. She may be the mother of 3 clever children, but she is very focused and more occupied with her work as the head of a radio station than with her family. Her husband, on the other hand, played by the wonderfully likeable Murat Seven, is a taxi driver and spends more time with the children than she does. A beautiful picture of a dream family who shape their lives wonderfully and cope fantastically with the fact that there is no longer any compulsory schooling for children, who decide for themselves whether to go to lessons or not. This is the main theme of the film! There is no compulsory schooling any more; we are shown 5 young people and how they develop in this situation. They are dramatic, sad and also joyful stories, told in the form of an episodic film coming to cinemas in May 2018! It was wonderful working with Katharina Mihm as director, who absolutely wanted me for this role, and there was so much woman power on set!!! It was great fun on set, also with my on-screen husband Murat Seven and cinematographer Arsenij Gusev, who thought all my shots were perfect :-)) Thank you for the honour of having been part of it.Director: Katharina Mihm // Partisan Filmverleih
