This Film Is a Stroke of Luck

It took only a few pages of the screenplay and Chris Gebert was deeply moved, immediately certain that he wanted to make this film. For the actor, "Sorry Guys" embodies everything that made him take up this profession. "With this story you can reach people, make them think, and give them the courage to be different. In many of the film's dialogues far more is negotiated than the mere words say — just as in life. I found that clever and appealing to play." In this film, Chris Gebert slips into the role of the heroic Louis, who together with his partner Robert wishes for a child. As a gay couple they depend on artificial insemination, but since they do not want a strange woman as a surrogate, Louis's sister Svenja is to carry the child. Her new boyfriend Ulf stumbles, entirely unwitting, right into the middle of the conception plan. What happens with this idea, the heights and depths into which it hurls the couple, the film tells in a light manner that gives the drama room without allowing too much heaviness. A "dramedy", as the filmmakers called it, Chris Gebert reveals. Officially, that coinage then became the description "a tragic summer comedy". Louis's sister Svenja is played by Sandra Borgmann. "Ever since drama school I had wanted to act with her, and with this film the time finally came. On the first day I was actually a little nervous. But that soon passed, because we were able to play together superbly straight away," recounts Chris Gebert. Just as inspiring and wonderful for him was acting alongside Jörg Westphal, Svenja's new boyfriend. And another fortunate turn of the film was working with director and screenwriter Stefan Aretz. The crowning piece of luck was then the era in which the film is set: the golden 1990s. "I thought it was great — finally I could tie on a lumberjack shirt again," enthuses Chris Gebert. This work, however, was not only to Chris Gebert's liking. The film has just been nominated for the Blaue Blume Award 2017. Fingers crossed!
