Ella Lee nominated for the German Newcomer Screenwriting Award
The aim is to champion young screenwriting for German cinema, and Ella Lee now has the chance to show just how much power her story KÖNIG DER MÖWEN holds:
Nine-year-old Erik has to spend the summer with his grandfather on the North Sea coast. The reclusive old man speaks only Low German and feeds the seagulls. To finally break through to his estranged grandfather, Erik resorts to a radical measure involving an air rifle.
Twenty unfilmed scripts by young authors up to the age of 27 were preselected for the German Newcomer Screenwriting Award from 136 submissions. Seven works from this shortlist are nominated for the German Newcomer Screenwriting Award. In the end, the expert jury will honour two scripts. Each award carries prize money of 2,000 euros, donated by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). In addition, the winners receive a mentorship with a professional screenwriter.
The award ceremony takes place on 9 November 2024 at the Künstlerhaus Hannover.
The cooperation partners are the German Screenwriters Association (DDV), casting network and, for the first time this year, the Produktionsallianz.
