At the End of a Small Village

At the End of a Small Village

On 4 August 2017, Doina Weber celebrates the premiere of AM ENDE EINES KLEINEN DORFES. The world premiere at the THALHOF is based on the powerful novella "Die Totenwacht". It portrays the central female figure of Anna in her unparalleled and timeless, passionate struggle for liberation against oppression, conformity and exclusion in a patriarchally dominated society. The way this unyielding young woman frees herself from the grip of a seemingly inescapable, walled-in existence demonstrates compellingly that one's own, consciously led life must be fought for without compromise. This Anna and her "challenger" Georg, the atmosphere of this night and a fantastic triangle of witnesses — formed by Anna's mother, equally present and absent — create an eerie pull. Here you can see compelling rehearsal excerpts featuring Doina Weber from the Salon5 at the THALHOF in Reichenau, Austria, south of Vienna. A summer festival of a special kind, whose setting and architectural beauty alone make it a living work of art.
