What is worse than a trip to the dentist? An interview! An interview also probes you to the bone… in the best case, and even then it is dreadful. In the worst case, it probes no tooth at all but simply gets on your nerves. "How do you learn all those lines?" and "Will Didi come back again?" and "What is it like, at your age, to have a teenage son?" No one needs that sort of thing after a felt 1,000 interviews at the age of 82. We persuaded Dieter Hallervorden to answer Michael Kessler's questions, because we believed — and now know, confirmed during the shoot — that Kessler is… is a show of a special kind. That is why Dieter Hallervorden also dutifully answers the question as to why he decided to sit with Michael Kessler on a lovely boat in a Cologne harbour: "My agency wanted it that way!" And then he enjoyed it, had fun, was given pause for thought, got on well with Michael Kessler, and we are proud of the result on "Kessler ist ..." on Friday 25 August at 10:30 pm on ZDF.
