"You can now rightly say: Hallervorden''s got a bird!" The Goldene Henne is Germany''s biggest and most important audience award — the East German answer to the Bambi and the Echo, so to speak, handed out in Leipzig. On 28 October 2016, Dieter Hallervorden received the Goldene Henne for his lifetime achievement, which is lovely, though such honours always carry a faint air of "Thanks, that''s a wrap!" Hence Dieter, shoeless on stage, said in his acceptance speech: "I''m not heading for the scrapheap," adding, "I''ll remain your cheering old-timer." Not quite right either, except that it rhymes nicely. He is everything, but no old-timer.
