Zwischen uns die Mauer

Zwischen uns die Mauer

Impeccable timing: 30 years after the fall of the Wall, this German-German love story reaches cinemas on the very day of reunification. Sixteen-year-old Anna from the West travels with a youth group to an exchange meeting in East Berlin. She quickly falls for the rebellious pastor's son Philipp. Neither Wall nor parents can halt love in its course. A dramatic incident forces them into radio silence. Only after the Wende do the two meet again - though their own reunion hangs in the balance. With great affection for its characters and plenty of real-socialist retro set design, the youth drama undertakes a journey back in time "to the other side", offering millennials entertaining glimpses into recent history. And gifting older generations a nostalgic déjà-vu.Extract from a film review by Dieter Oßwald:… Based on the autobiographical novel by Katja Hildebrand, the award-winning youth-film director Norbert Lechner ("Toni Goldwascher") tells this German-German teenage love story with a light touch, great sensitivity and palpable affection for his characters. Lea Freund ("Die Nachtschwestern") and Tom Bülow ("Unter dem Sand") play the lovestruck pair with great credibility and plenty of empathy. The real-socialist set design shines with grey retro charm.Germany 2019Director: Norbert LechnerCast: Lea Freund, Tom Bülow, Fritz Karl, Leon Blaschke, Till Demuth, Lars FeithRunning time: 110 minutesDistribution: Alpenrepublik FilmverleihSales: FilmperlenCinema release: 3 October 2019
