On 30 November 2021, „Der Krug an der Wiedau“ celebrates its cinema premiere.
In „Der Krug an der Wiedau“, Mathias Harrebye-Brandt plays the disillusioned Chief Inspector Schröder from Kiel. He is sent to Wiedau because there has been a murder and the body was lying half on German, half on Danish soil. And so Schröder, who tends towards rather unconventional investigative methods, has to deal with a Danish colleague.
The linguistic diversity of the border region between Germany and Denmark plays the leading role here, celebrating this unique linguistic and cultural variety — German, Frisian, Low German, Sønderjysk and Danish are all spoken there.
But above all, „Der Krug an der Wiedau“ is a comedic crime film that sheds light on the drawing of the 1920 border in our German-Danish borderland and brings out the west-coast mentality. The action takes place mainly in an inn in the no-man's-land between Germany and Denmark, where the locals — regardless of nationality and language — meet and understand one another.
