Cinema Release of "DAS MÄDCHEN UND DER TOD"

We are delighted to announce the cinema release date of DAS MÄDCHEN UND DER TOD by the veteran Dutch director Jos Stelling: from 16 May 2013, this visually powerful love story opens in German cinemas. Starring Dieter Hallervorden, Sylvia Hoeks, Leonid Bichevin, Sergey Makovetskyi, Renata Litvinova, Svetlana Svetlichnaya and others. Netherlands, Russia, Germany | 2012. Running time: 124 min. DAS MÄDCHEN UND DER TOD — a poetic film about an unfulfilled love — draws the viewer into an extraordinary visual undertow: it tells the timeless story of old Nicolai, who returns to the place where, half a century earlier, he met the great love of his life, the courtesan Elise. An impossible love, thwarted by materialism, wealth and death threats. More than fifty years later, Nicolai relives this love story once again in the same, now decaying hotel that was at once sanatorium and brothel. The dramatic events unfold in parallel with the four seasons and culminate in a surprising finale that brings past and present together. The film's subject is the timeless story of a tragic love, deeply embedded in German and European cultural history, with a wholly distinctive, expressive and surreal visual language. The particular coup: alongside the young leads Sylvia Hoeks (Netherlands) and Leonid Bichevin (Russia), the grand old man of German comedy, Didi Hallervorden, plays the count and is magnificently cast as the villain. DAS MÄDCHEN UND DER TOD is a production by MA.JA.DE fiction (Heino Deckert) in co-production with JOS STELLING FILMS (Jos Stelling) and AVANGARD MEDIA LLC (Yevgeni Gindilis).
