"Schönes Schlamassel"

In November 2019, director Wolfgang Murnberger ("Nichts zu verlieren", "Das ewige Leben") shot the comedy "Schönes Schlamassel". To win over Anne (Verena Altenberger), a bookseller enchanted by Judaism, the young surgeon Daniel (Maxim Mehmet) passes himself off as Jewish and becomes hopelessly entangled in a web of white lies.
"In this film, the difficult balance between a wry smile and quiet reflection is struck to perfection. Humour can help to tell of complex situations and inhuman behaviour in a way that makes people watch, learn and change the way they think. That is entertainment of the highest order!", says Dieter Hallervorden of the film.
He describes his role as the Jewish author Schlomo Wisniewski like this: "Schlomo is a man who, as the author of his memoirs, describes things he never experienced himself but knows only from the accounts of others. He makes memories of the Holocaust come alive for the reader, passing them off as his very own. To me, Schlomo is someone so deeply affected by the reports of the atrocities in the concentration camps that, at some point, in a kind of shift of reality, he came to process them as his own lived experience.
Of course his behaviour is criminally relevant, but morally forgivable, because it is done with good intentions."
