Schissi on the Platform

Schissi on the Platform

On my way to the first day of shooting I have to change trains in Hamburg-Harburg, but the connecting train is half an hour late, so I go into the station concourse. On my way back to the platform, Henning Baum comes towards me. A friendly smile escapes me, which he returns, though he can't quite place me. I sit down on a bench by the platform and busy myself with my phone. A few minutes later Mr Baum arrives too and sits down two seats away from me. After a brief hesitation I take off my sunglasses and greet him with: "Tach, Käpt'n." After a moment of confusion, Mr Baum realises who I am, holds out his "ghetto fist" and says: "Schissi, the train's late." "Yep," I say. Then I turn back to my phone and he goes off to make a call. Our next conversation is about the rest of the journey's logistics, since the train to Schwerin has been cancelled. We are now to be picked up from Harburg, and we use the time to get something to eat at a Lebanese restaurant. Mr Baum settles the bill with the words: "I fancy treating you — besides, I'm the older one." A lovely start to the shoot at a lovely spot called Plauen am See. Director: Holger Haase. Production: Moovie Filmproduktion GmbH for ARD/Degeto. Casting: Mai Seck
